Upcoming Senior Dates and Deadlines

Updated: Apr 17

When you become a senior in high school all you can think about is graduating and starting a new life. You don’t think about everything else that comes with it and what you have to think about before graduation. Senior year can be fun, but it can also be stressful depending on how you approach it.

The beginning of senior year always starts out the same way every other year does. You don’t have any worries at the moment, and you have nothing to think about. Once you get closer to the end of the year and the dates for everything get posted you have to start worrying about what you still have left to accomplish before graduation, and you have to start thinking about the college(s) you applied to or are going to apply to and what you are going to do after high school.

Important senior dates got posted recently and everyone is getting ready for them. Senior exams take place May 6-9. Senior breakfast will be held in the auditorium at 8:15 a.m. on May 13. Baccalaureate is going to be held at Stetson Baptist Church with a reception following at 7:00 p.m. on May 14.

On May 16, at 7:00 p.m. senior awards are going to be handed out at Stetson Edmonds Center. Graduation rehearsal will be held May 20, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ocean center with the graduation ceremony following the next day at 7:00 p.m.

Senior breakfast is a time when all seniors who have preordered a cap and gown will receive them only on this day and thereafter. If seniors haven't yet ordered a cap and gown, they may purchase one on this day for $100 cash only. They may also pick up their prepaid yearbook and if they haven’t ordered one but want to, they can order one this day if there are any more available.

This is the time that you will turn in your laptops, chargers, books and pay any obligations you may owe the school. This is your opportunity to socialize with friends one last time at school while eating a yummy breakfast. This will be followed with a senior clap out throughout the school to say goodbye to all the memories and everyone you will be leaving behind.

Baccalaureate is an event that a local church hosts for seniors from a specific school. Stetson Baptist is going to be holding DeLand High’s ceremony. This event is considered a non-denominational ceremony held a few days before the graduation ceremony. The pastor will say some things about the seniors’ walk with Christ. Then, there’s a reception to follow. It is not mandatory.

Senior awards is an award ceremony for all students to receive their medallions at the end of the ceremony along with other awards such as honor cords and scholarships.

With 2024 coming to an end, these are some dates seniors may want to consider. This is an important time in your lives, and it is just the beginning. Make the most of senior year and attend the meetings and ceremonies. These are all moments and memories that you will get to look back on.
