Mrs. Bishop is your Teacher of the Year!

Congratulations to Michele Bishop for being selected as DeLand High School’s 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year! The announcement of her selection came to the delight of many students, faculty and staff, who were proud of her accomplishment.

Bishop commentated on the reactions she’s gotten from teachers and students alike, stating that she’s received emails and congratulatory messages from her colleagues. She’s also been called a legend by her own students!


When asked how she felt about being selected, she explained that being chosen as teacher of the year is one of the highest honors of the profession, and that it’s an affirmation of the work she does day in and day out. In terms of who she thinks should earn the honor next year, she stated that there are numerous teachers who go above and beyond and deserve the spotlight.


Bishop’s key to success has always focused on energy, engagement and excitement. In her classroom, she serves as a cheerleader to get seniors hyped about their final year. She loves tradition and consistently showcases her school spirit, hoping that her students will follow suit in the process.


As an English teacher, she does a tremendous job of relating literature works to aspects of everyday life, which helps her connect with her students on a deeper level. Through deep conversations and a fun teaching style, she’s built an extraordinary culture that helps set her students up for success.


Calling out to new or aspiring teachers, she offered a strong piece of advice. She recommended finding and connecting with long-tenured, heart-filled teachers. They’re not only a gold mine of wisdom, but also of experience and knowledge. She explained that when times get tough, or when something doesn’t seem quite right, always seek those teachers out.


At the end of it all, Mrs. Bishop is highly deserving of being selected the Teacher of the Year for the 2022-2023 class. She has had the skills, charisma and excitement to thrive in America’s teaching environment. Congratulations Mrs. Bishop!
